Willys CJ2A from Destination Moon (1953) Inspired by the Jeep Willys CJ2A, Hergé gave us the jeep from Destination Moon. The Willys CJ2A is the first jeep made in a “civilian” version. Its production started on July 17, 1946. Between 1945 and 1949, the production reached 214,760 units. Destined in particular to the agricultural community, civilian jeeps were derived from the famous Willys MB, designed five years earlier to serve the needs of the US Army during WWII. Approaching war’s end, Willys decided to launch a civilian workhorse. Although not a widely known fact, the CJ2A had two ancestors: the CJ-1 (May ’44) and the CJ-2 (1944/45) a.k.a. “Agrijeep”. THE THREE CARS WHICH INSPIRED HERGE : •The Alfa Romeo P3 (1932) Max. speed : 140 mph Power : 2654 cc • The Amilcar CGSS (1927) Max. speed : 60 mph Power : 1075cc • The ERA (1938)
